ctrl LIVE: Mathmatrix - Album Launch

Thursday, October 30 - join us for the launch of the new album from Mathmatrix, a true alchemist of sound in the electronic and IDM realm, joined by Raluca Staicu as special guest.

The artist behind Mathmatrix, Victor Popescu - also known as BLN and Brazda lui Novac - has carved out a niche in the musical landscape since 1997, with releases on acclaimed labels such as Touched Music, Square Sound Records, and Raumklang Music Records. Under his current moniker, adopted in 2021, he revisits the essence of Brazda lui Novac, now enriched with decades of experience and the technology of 2025.

Widely recognized for fusing classic IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) sounds and arrangements with experimental, grindy, and glitchy layers - sometimes even touching on 80s synth-pop, shoegaze, or darkwave - Mathmatrix crafts a sound that’s both nostalgic and forward-looking. 

This new album, Brazda lui Novac, stays true to the old-school process - no AI-generated tracks. While some custom generative tools were used to refine the textures, every sound was shaped by hand and intent. “We live in times where you have to specify your music is organic,” he says. “But no AI could make this. Or not yet.”

Featuring 16 tracks, including a collaboration with French IDM artist Syl Kougaï and the haunting vocals of Raluca Staicu, Brazda lui Novac is a statement of pure electronic artistry.
